With over 35 years of experience, Stef Thielemans is a true icon of the Flemish radio scene. Known in the golden days of free radio as Jan De Groot, he was the voice behind legendary shows like Discofever, The Totaal Show, and The RRRrrshow on stations such as Radio Moetoen, CRD, Fantastiek, and Topradio.
After a decade-long break, he made a powerful comeback—this time from his own home studio, driven by the passion that never left. Together with longtime radio friends Jo Van Belle and Turbo Lucas, who delivered a full jingle package, his flagship show “The Land Of Dance – mixed by DeejayJ Stef” was born.

My DJ name comes from the Disco Mix Club from the 1980s. (Deejay Maes Chris)
My friends always called me that, and it has stayed that way to this day.
Born in the fantastic year 1974, more precisely November 7, when CARL DOUGLAS’ Kung Fu Fighting was number 1 in the BRT TOP 30.
My father (+) was also into music, and I probably caught the “music bug” from him.
At my First Communion, I received my first portable radio. That’s when I knew that music would play a big role in my life.
On my 12th birthday, I started experimenting with my father’s disco setup.
From then on, I practiced beat-mixing and scratching every single day.
I was very interested in all the radio shows that broadcast mixes — and of course, in how smooth those radio productions sounded.
1989: my first discotheque experience.
1995: the year I finished 2nd in the Belgian DJ Contest (Live Mixing) — around the time the first DENON CD mixer hit the market.
1997: I started making mashups and mixes using the software Cool Edit Pro.
1998: created the Year Mix for Radio Donna.
2002: switched from Windows to Apple, which meant adapting to Ableton Live Suite.
BIOGRAPHY
In 1999, I won the Mixmasters Contest for Radio Donna, which was later released on CD:

Since 2015, I’ve continued to produce the yearly HitMix for the dedicated fans on Mixcloud.
